Eight weeks later still...
Hello, it's me again.
Some time during the past eight or so weeks, my web hosting provider decided to shut my account, which is why there are no pretty graphics on my blog and it once again looks like I've abandonded it, it's been hacked by spammers and is now peddling porn, viagra and weight loss pills. I guess I have no real cause to complain about it. You tend to get what you pay for and I paid exactly nothing for their services.
As you know, I have been off in the wilderness, preparing for a big move to the city. Actually, the move has already happened but we're now at that dreadful stage where the new place is like a pig sty, half of our things are still in boxes and we're forever left scratching our heads, wondering where everything is. On the plus side, our two mutant monster cats have settled down a bit since we introduced them to the new pad [for days, they spent most of their time hiding *inside* the sofa, only ever venturing out to eat and use the litter tray] and in a few weeks, we'll have a think about letting them outside, most probably on a leash [how cute!] to see how they'll handle that.
We've moved from a countryside cottage near Greenock, to a tenement flat in the west end of Glasgow, which is quite a culture change. Instead of sheep and cows in our back garden, and a 60 minute walk to the nearest train station, we're fighting for car parking spaces and it's a three minute walk to the nearest pub. I have also been told that the official term for gay couples living in the west end is "West End Wendies". How lovely!
In other news, I have been preparing for my 40th birthday celebrations. Actually, I won't be 40 until October but I am planning a huge birthday bash - which I have named the Wonky Pop Party - and I need to start work on it now, or else die of stress before I even reach 40. The thing is, I'll be having a disco at the party - but it will be no ordinary disco. In fact, it will be a decidedly "wonky" affair. No self respecting DJ in their right mind would dare to play even half the stuff I plan to be on the playlist, all of which means I'll be doing the DJing myself. No, I won't be spinning the decks myself on the night, rather I will be mixing the whole night's set in Sony Acid Pro beforehand. Most DJs I have spoken to have told me this is a recipe for a disaster but they're bound to say that, aren't they? It'll probably take me weeks to do the mixing, but I hope the end result will be worth it, everyone embraces the "concept" and has a really good time.
The whole concept has allowed me to flex my creative muscles a bit too. The other day I thoroughly enjoyed branding the world's most ridiculous pop stars - step forward Lisa Scott-Lee, Geri Halliwell, Alcazar, Gaga, Sinitta, etc. - with a big red WONKY stamp. I also came up with the strap line, "the party where it's right to be wrong!" which I think is very apt. The invitations were sent to the printers yesterday, there's already a Facebook page and a web site is also coming soon.
Looks like it's time to start pricing web hosting packages that cost a little bit more than nothing.
